I hope not because that’s the way I’ve done it ever since leaving my parents’ house at 17. We always had the Arctic Monkeys Tour 2023 poster shirt Christmas Day opening growing up, but that’s in part because our grandparents were there too. Once on my own, for some reason it seemed to make more sense (to me) to have a nice dinner and open the presents on Christmas eve. That left Christmas day to do whatever. Not much was open when I was younger, so it could be a day of quiet, relaxation and reflection. Some of my friends always did it on Christmas eve … especially as I recall my Catholic friends. Often they went to Midnight Mass and also had services on Christmas day. My church had a midnight service, but they more or less suggested adults only. And unless Christmas happened to be Sunday, there was no Christmas day service.

What is the big deal about December 25th? According to most people oh it’s when Jesus was born, wrong. Others says similar things too, still wrong. Proof of point, if Jesus was 33 1/2 years old when he was crucified. With Easter being the time of his Crucifixion & Resurrection. Basic math disproves the whole Jesus being born in December at all. In historical fact, the Winter solstice is just another time of year people would sacrifice their children to thier current “god(s)”. The word Christmas comes from the Catholic church absorbing pagon holidays to attract new people from new areas. They’d originally been called having Christ Mas. Like Sunday Mas. People just started running the words together.

   But I found myself not laughing. A few worked, like when Mantis got hit by falling debree in the final third act battle. But Rocket’s humor was not funny, Star-Lord and Gamora flirting did not amuse me. Sure- some things were funny- some Baby Groot moments were hilarious, that Mantis scene again, Drax and Mantis had a few funny scenes, and when Star-Lord and Rocket were arguing about tape- I guess that was funny, but other than that- most jokes just didn’t land. It was a shame, cause the first movie was so damn funny. But this movie was also so slow. There was barely any action. Majority of the film takes place on Ego’s Planet, and shows Drax falling in love with Mantis, Peter and Gamora getting closer together, and Peter getting to know his father. Whilst the relationships would otherwise be interesting to watch progress, they didn’t progress in the way I wanted.
