I was there on a busy rainy day. Quite happy they took us in when Lokal didn’t.Don’t want to sound like a Devin Booker Jersey The Valley shirt but why do these “Top Eatery Places In Singapore You Need To Try!” always ignore Malay and Indian mom and pops’ stalls? It’s a pity not many lists contain them but sometimes I am also annoyed these shops sometimes operate at very short hours (Malay food establishments for some reason are not big on dinner) and at times closed on weekends.My partner and I proceeded to order 2 brunch mains and 1 tea.Bout 5 mins in, we were informed that one of the mains was unavailable and we had to pick something else. We were not informed that the other was already cooking.Therefore, the one that was available arrived a whole 10-15 minutes along with our tea before the replacement.What happened after that was an awkward “I don’t want it to turn cold, but I don’t want to start first” scenario. In the end, everything was pretty much room temp due to the cold air con. Tea did not stay warm for long.I think I has the signature scrambled egg croissant which wasn’t anything much.Will happily go next door to the Lokal for a better experience.Yeah. I have a few Chinese friends who have never eaten Indian food, or never go to Malay or Indian eateries unless they are with Malay/Indian friends. Wonder how common this is and if it’s a reason why some aweome eateries tend to go under the radar.

This spicy?” It’s a bit saddening to see Malay/Indian food as mostly Devin Booker Jersey The Valley shirt compared to the soupy, herby dishes of Northeastern Asia. It is funny though but when they visit Bali, they’ll enamoured the “healthy local dishes” there. Malay/Indo food is originally very healthy. We used to use a lot of ulams (herbs), tempeh, local fruits and very fresh produce. In Kelantan, they are big on this and it is actually very delicious. One can say Nasi Ulam is so “vegan artisan” that’ll put any “high probiotic-organic” dishes to shame. Don’t know what happened to what it is now – I believe 3/4 of halal eateries here are either fast food joints or confectionary shops or really bad ramen.Ah, one of my fondest memories for food would be couch surfing at a friend of a friend’s place in these flats by the Kerinchi station about, say, 20 years ago (also memorable – felt like the slums, dark, graffiti-ed, blinking fluorescent lights, stumbled upon couples doing the deed at the staircases), awesome because it was right during the peak of a raya bazaar.And this aunty from Kelantan was there, long queues selling ayam percik, grilled on the spot, then topped with this white sauce/gravy. Was creamy yet watery, and deceptively spicy. I remember asking that too, was it spicy?, and she laughed, replied with a lilt (I can understand a smattering of Malay but this was way out of my league) and gestured for me to just try. Added the ulam(?), which I can only recognise fiddleheads and scrawny winged beans, with a touch of again super spicy lime based sambal.That became a daily affair, ate that for dinner the whole time I was there. The white sauce was the nicest (ahem), better than the orange one. Never really knew what it was since I couldn’t communicate, not had anyone to ask. I only remember going up the elevators feeling I needed to guard this precious triangle-wrapped packet of rice, then eating with hands, sat on the floor, in true couch surfing tradition. Best-est ever. Still think about it from time to time, some day I will make it up north. Right now I gotta train my kid to eat spicy…
