People sleep pretty late on Dec 25th and it’s usually pretty quiet with just a big dinner with family. So people use to wish us Happy Birthday and our parents gave us presents but our birthdays were kind of anticlimactic. There isn’t suppose to be any real drinking on Dec 24th but that isn’t always followed and I remember some of the adults getting a bit plastered. Maybe that’s why I just love Santa, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Christmas decor, Christmas Trees and Christmas MUSIC! Cause we never really had it…though my parents always had Xmas music on as we lit Hanukkah candles and opened Hanukkah presents. Haha. We never had stockings, or left cookies out for Santa, cause he passed over our house. Blah and ugh. Yea, as kids we were a little resentful of that. sighs. I remember once as a little kid my mom took me to the mall to get my pic with Santa and when he asked me (this little blonde hair blue eyed girl) what I wanted for Xmas I looked at him and I started crying. I said I am Jewish… think I yelled at him…you don’t ever come to my house. And, he looked at me like so confused and lost…the $10 dollar an hour Santa was at a loss for words, not sure what to say to me…..I held on to his arm and I begged him to come to our house just this one time. My mom had to pull me away. He seemed relieved however, he did promise me he would come. And that year we left cookies out for him (in the shape of Jewish stars and Dreidels) and carrots on the lawn for the [[Educated Natural Queen Classic T Shirt]]. Christmas was always a special and magical time at our house. In November, Dad would hire men to put lights all over the huge pine trees we had in the front yard and on the house. It looked beautiful at night. Like a wonderland. Our fridge would suddenly have glazed cherries currants and all sorts of good stuff for baking. Mom loved to bake. When my older sisters and I were younger, we got very excited when Dad brought the tree home. He would always go to a farm a friend of his owned and they would cut down a huge tree and bring it home. We had ten foot ceilings in our home and the tree would always be about eight or nine feet tall and nice and bushy. Later, when we were older, Dad would take my older twin sisters Lori and Tracy and I to the title and we would trek into the woods just like on Christmas Vacation and hunt for our tree. Dad didn’t forget the axe though. After we found the perfect tree, we would cut it down and Dad’s friend would help us get it in the truck. We would then have a bonfire and roast wieners for hot dogs. We did this every year into our high teens.
