A very loving nun from our school had given our name to a university. I had never seen so many boxes in my life. Our entire hallway was filled straight into the kitchen. There had to be enough food to feed us for two or three months. The young woman at the door had dark brown hair with the brightest eyes and the most engaging smile. That night, we all made the rounds to everyone’s houses, and all those Christmas “conspirators” pretended to be “surprised” as my sister and I told them what Santa brought to our home “He even brought us a pretty tree with decorations and lights!” Sometimes, when your Christmas seems so down, if you listen close enough, you can just about hear a little 4 year old girl tell her mom “ Don’t worry. Everything will be OK!

I simply want to share a story on the subject. Ten years ago when I was having surgery in Los Angeles, my brother in law drove us there in my vehicle. The surgery was long and we told him to just take off and enjoy a drive around Santa Monica and Beverly Hills. He could meet us back at the hospital and pick us up. After my surgery and we were on our way home he was very quiet. His sister asked him – What was up? He said “Nothing”. And we continued on to San Diego. He then related how when he was driving up the title highway in Santa Monica it was getting dark and he decided turn around and go back. The only place to do so was in a State Park lot. He had never seen tire spikes before and had no idea what the sign saying “Stop, severe tire damage” Meant. So he felt he was just turning around so no harm no foul. Suddenly the car was on the rims and he had no idea what had just happened. He got out and saw all four tires flat. He looked back at the spikes and thought “holy crap”.
